My Experience at Women Who Code Program

“A mentor is someone who sees more talent and ability within you, than you see in yourself, and helps bring it out of you.”

Indeed this is a true statement, after being through the 5 weeks of the mentorship program I can firmly say that anyone who lacks guidance, feels confused, and need someone to discuss about their goals related to their tech career. Then, applying to the Women Who Code Delhi mentorship program is a perfect opportunity for you as this program helps you to navigate through your strengths and weaknesses and how you can take leverage through different opportunities available in tech.

I have documented my 5 week journey in my blogs, shared my experience and what I learned from each session. Reading these blogs would give you an understanding of what to expect from this mentorship program.

Finally, after receiving the selection email, I was really excited about the entire 5-week journey. I had the pleasure of having Charanjeev Kaur as my mentor. The very first session was an introductory call where Charanjeev gave an overview of the entire program. Then, all the mentees introduced themselves. There was a very friendly environment and I personally felt like it was the perfect place for me to get addressed the queries that I have about the tech world and on improving myself. Charanjeev did a great job of making us feel comfortable with her.

After it, we were asked to tell what are the expectations we, as a mentee have from the program and based on our particular interested technical domain what sort of help are we willing to seek from the mentor.

In my case, as I’m interested in full stack development so my mentor suggested me to not only watch the tutorial on topics related to web development but also implement it by myself and understand the logic behind why certain lines of code are written and what those lines are exactly doing. No doubt, building projects is one of the great ways to learn full-stack development. There are youtube channels like 6 Pack Programmer, FreeCodeCamp, Traversy Media, and many more from which beginners can take help from. We were also asked to write about our short-term weaknesses and long-term weaknesses and the discussion continued on that. This was all about the first week onboarding session. I’ll meet you in the next blog. Hope you enjoyed reading this.
